Genovesa Island
Our beautiful morning began on the island of Genovesa. We started with an incredible hike on Prince Philip’s Steps. A Zodiac ride across the caldera took us to a short staircase leading up to the plateau where we saw frigatebirds inflating their pouches to attract females and red-footed boobies nesting in the trees. A midday snorkel revealed both the Galápagos sea lion and fur seal, along with many different schools of reef fish. In the afternoon, we went paddleboarding and kayaking along the cliffs. To finish our day, we took a natural history hike along Darwin’s Beach where we observed lava gulls and many more of the incredible seabirds that live on this island. A beautiful sunset was the perfect end to our first full day in the Enchanted Islands.

National Geographic Sea Bird
Clarkston, Washington
The first full day of our trip was one with gorgeous weather and beautiful landscapes. In the morning, we took off on jetboats to explore Hells Canyon, where we saw an amazing variety of birds and many bighorn sheep. After lunch overlooking the river at Heller Bar, we headed back to National Geographic Sea Bird. Our afternoon was spent onboard with a presentation by James Spencer, a Nez Perce storyteller, and a wine tasting with Coco Umiker from Clearwater Canyon Cellars. We left the dock at Clarkston behind during cocktail hour and began our journey toward the Pacific Ocean.

South Plaza and Santa Fe Islands
This morning, National Geographic Gemini anchored at South Plaza Island where we enjoyed a nature walk. We found the Galapagos land iguana, swallow-tailed gulls nesting, sea lions and Darwin’s finches. In the afternoon, we explored the underwater wonders of Santa Fe Island, including playful sea lions, turtles, a ray, and many different colorful fish. These amazing creatures made it an incredible experience! After a quick change of clothes, we went inland to look for the Santa Fe land iguana and the beautiful forest of giant Opuntia cacti. It was definitely a wonderful first full day in the Galapagos!

National Geographic Orion
Tobago
Greetings from Tobago! Being in the islands of Trinidad and Tobago has been amazing, and National Geographic Orion continued to make her way through the Caribbean Islands. It was a wet day with the clouds and rain settling in, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Hiking and birding tours were arranged for guests. The tropical rain forest was so luscious and full of birdlife that it kept guests rapt at the beauty of Tobago. The afternoon was a fanfare of music, dancing, great food, and beverages provided by our restaurant and bar staff.

National Geographic Venture
Coyote Bay, Bahia Conception, Baja California, Mexico
Guests had a nice, relaxing morning as they enjoyed the amenities of National Geographic Venture and learned how to record whale identification images on Happy Whale. The highlight of the morning was a Wine and Watercolor session with undersea specialist Amy Malkoski, who encouraged us to tap into our artistic side. We spent the afternoon exploring Coyote Bay with a mix of activities, from chilling on the beach, beachcombing, and joining naturalists on hikes of different lengths. The Baja California environment can look desolate, but there is lots of life to observe, particularly on cacti. Take a look at our photos of a hooded oriole and a verdin.
